aight so my bucket list trip was ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY BIT OF EVERYTHING, i had a marvelous time and I’m SO GLAD i did it, thank you for asking. “((∩´︶`∩))” Had to come back to the harsh reality of “oh yeah you actually do have a job to go to every weekday” and “yikes do i really have to relearn my job from scratch (kinda)?!” I didn’t choose this role, it’s really cool and the team is awesome but honestly i feel like the old dog having trouble with new tricks right now lmao.

Anyway, thinky thoughts because obviously i watched more things to escape reality (what is this timeline, i swear). Mainly anime & movies, because otherwise i just complain about the Switch 2 (because as genuinely nice as it is, I feel like it’s just a res’d up Switch OLED with some sorely needed QOL updates, since there’s a distinct lack of fresh exclusive titles, and that price point is YIKES for what it is—oh wait that’s me complaining about it anyway haha oops).

Context-wise, this commentary is pre-finale (episode 13), so um. This opinion is subject to change, because whether this series is AMAZING or just okay really depends on what they do on that last episode. I am honestly like, this really could use another couple of episodes, and I’d be into seeing another full 13 if they really were gonna do something GOOD, but as it stands… this is a super fun watch right now. The characters are intriguing (but if you SKIP SOME OF THE BACKSTORIES I STG!!!! PLS TELL ME ABOUT DOUG), the music is FANTASTIC, the action sequences are fucking amazing—and should be, the John Wick action director oversaw it—and it’s honestly been a really interesting storyline so far. I just think that with how they’ve done the rest of the show so far, one episode is a Super Tall Order to wrap it all up nicely. I hope they knock it out of the park, but I’m so doubtfully skeptical lmao. I really want to say this was a hit for me, but I’m So Worried!!

Wanna know why I decided to put out a post? THIS FUCKING SHOW. I actually had a bit of a heads up on what this series was about, and it still kinda uh FUCKED ME UP HAHAHA WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SERIES?!?! Literally have been SHRIEKING and CRYING LAUGHING like a complete maniac while watching this. I don’t even know how to describe this… “mechs gone wild”?? “Military war mech show that also doesn’t take itself too seriously and by the way, is ALSO a gay romance love triangle”??? HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THIS HAHA. I get so much whiplash on this one because it has some really seriously dark and deep moments (the warnings on it include violence, war, torture, and YES IT HAS ALL OF IT—there’s war casualties, someone getting waterboarded, the world is fucking burning alive, etc.), but then you have a robot making the CRAZIEST INNUENDOS about its chosen pilot, who is in a mutual pining situationship with another mech pilot and then the main robot has ITS OWN THEME SONG that PLAYS FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE SHOW (and they go WHY DO YOU HAVE A THEME SONG like you realistically would do that right???) and the robot has its own backgrounds that it projects when it arrives and poses for everyone and it goes all PHILOSOPHICAL ON EVERYONE, and there’s PEOPLE GETTING NAKED WHY?!?!?! and it’s like WHAT THE FUCK AM I WATCHING—
Anyway. This show is bonkers. Legitimately bonkers and I haven’t laughed this hard since I don’t know when. The corners of my eyes are burning like I’ve had a good cry but it’s because I FUCKING LOST IT SHRIEKING WITH LAUGHTER;;; and the opening and ending songs just ENHANCE THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE oh my goD!!
Also this is exactly the kind of dumb I needed in my life at this very moment in time. And for the record, I’m only halfway through but literally binged the first half in an evening.
EDIT: I CAUGHT UP TO THE PLOT TWIST. WAS NOBODY GONNA TELL ME THERE WAS ACTUALLY A PLOT TWIST IN GAY DUMB ROBOTS SHOW. SO MUCH MAKES WAY MORE SENSE NOW LMAOOOO this is absolutely an EXPERIENCE

The Apothecary Diaries (Season 2)
studio: Toho Animation Studio / OLM
drama, mystery, romance, “historical”
Honestly S2 took a little while to get up and running, but once it did, HOOBOY!!!!! WE ARE BACK! This season has been a total roller coaster and it’s been a great ride! I had previously been spoiled about a couple things that ended up happening here and lmao I’m so glad I didn’t know the full context of what was going on. But for those in the know: the frog scene… it finally HAPPENED! Hahaha ohhh my god. It’s great!! But yeah things are getting exciting! I think there may only be 1-2 more episodes left this season and it’s working up to a doozy. Such a great series, great characters (FREAKING LOVE MAOMAO honestly she’s one of my fave female leads EVER), and I’m still rooting for JinMao but it’s gonna be a rough time getting to that point considering everything.

movies

thunderbolts*
director: Jake Schreier
action, adventure, comic book
Last time, I said I was worried about the MCU after the major flop that was Captain America: Brave New World? Well if they continue going the direction of Thunderbolts*, they’ll be FINE. This honestly was such a fun, great movie with a fantastic cast, great chemistry between the characters, and an actually interesting storyline. While I think some context would’ve been better understood if I’d watched Falcon & the Winter Soldier, it didn’t feel like I absolutely *HAD* to have seen it to get the gist. Super fun time, I love Yelena so much, and I would absolutely watch more movies/shows starring this crew in particular.

mission: impossible - the final reckoning
director: Christopher McQuarrie
action, spy, thriller
Aight so before the previous MI film released, I did a full marathon of all the films in order, and honestly?? It was such a good time! Absolutely love this franchise, and that it manages to be so thrilling and amazing every time (except MI:2, that movie was legit BAD and nobody will convince me otherwise lol). Final Reckoning is rumored to be the final MI film (at least with Ethan Hunt / Tom Cruise’s character), and I think they did a very good job of making sure it had some sense of finality for him. And from an artistic perspective, the thing I really appreciated most about it was that some of the directional choices really felt like a genuine nod to the 90s action film era that birthed the first one in the franchise. I also have to hand it to Tom Cruise for how many freaking batshit bananas crazy bonkers stunts he does, HOOBOY. He’s a big believer in practical effects and those do really age the best, but DAMN SON does he have a death wish?! Anyway my only complaint for this movie was that the projector broke during the showing I went to lol oops (apparently a power surge knocked it out), but we all got free movie passes…….. bruh im a theater subscriber that means jack shit to me lmao. ANYway. Love the MI films, kinda want to gear up for another marathon at some point. And maybe I’ll include MI:2 just for the lulz, since that film does nothing else for the franchise except meme up the disguise removal frequency.

karate kid: legends
director: Jonathan Entwistle
action, martial arts
OKAY LISTEN UP PLEBES. I grew up on the original Karate Kid movies (meaning I probably wore out our VHS copies at some point, YES I AM THAT FUCKING OLD OKAY, plus i even used a scene from Karate Kid Part II as part of my BA thesis presentation BECAUSE I COULD), I have seen every movie, absolutely love Cobra Kai and what it’s done for the franchise in the modern TV era, and uh yeah I would classify myself as a long-time Big Fan. With that being said, I also did see some murmurings about this not being a good movie. And to that I say… FUCK YOU, CRITICS—OBVIOUSLY YOU DON’T *GET IT*!! (actually everyone is entitled to an opinion, i guess… even if it’s WRONG.) I, an Actual Fan of the franchise, absolutely loved this installment! It felt like it gave a nod to the entire collection with a modern twist, and harnessed enough of what made Cobra Kai such a fun romp to give it legs. All I can say is that I’m very much here for it. I loved it, and would happily watch this one again (plus this is reminding me I have some catching up to do on Cobra Kai YIKES!!!!). Haters gonna hate, but if you actually appreciate the core of what makes Karate Kid a fun franchise, I think you’ll like this one.
